The Diabetes & Immune Disease National Research Institute (DIDNRI) has developed a Fellowship Award to provide funds to Institute researchers whose efforts show great promise toward combating autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Applicants must submit a research project proposal and are chosen by a panel of senior level scientists. As of 2009, fellowships are awarded in the following categories: Center for Infectious Disease Fellowship (CID); Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research Fellowship (T1D-CRF); and Type 1 Diabetes Immune Disease Fellowship (T1D-IDF).

Donations from the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and state employee fundraising campaigns go directly to support these Fellowship grants. In addition to these Fellowship awards, CFC and state campaign contributions assist in the purchase of specialized research instruments and equipment and help to support the work of all our senior research staff. Their discoveries are providing important insights into the causes of numerous immune system disorders as well as understanding the immune response to infectious diseases and cancers.
